About Boulder Lodge

Boulder Lodge is situated just north of Tenterfield and South of Stanthorpe near Boonoo Boonoo Falls and Bald Rock National Park in Thunderbolt country.

It is surrounded by five hundred hectare of bush which is inhabited by kangaroos and wallabies, many bird species and even the odd koala. A family of black cockatoos can often be seen (and heard) in the surrounding trees. While there are no marked walking tracks there are many tracks where timber has been harvested over the years.

The building itself was started in about 1990 by an elderly man called Jim Dunton, a WWII veteran. One wall is a large pink granite boulder and the other three are stone and concrete.

After several years of building in his spare time, he became too old and couldn’t continue and on his death aged 90 in 2010 the block was purchased by the Muller and Brown families with the aim of finishing the building as guest accommodation.

Osborn Lane consulting Engineers from Warwick designed the new plan and Jim Green from Stanthorpe agreed to the difficult task of turning a shell into a finished building.

It is comprised of three floors and a deck on top of the rock, with a large natural granite paved apron surrounding two sides of the building.
